Wuanita Smith

1866-1959

 

    A native of Philadelphia, Wuanita Smith was a painter, printmaker, and illustrator of children's books. She studied at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women (now Moore College of Art) and co-founded the American Color Print Society of Philadelphia. A student of Howard Pyle at the Drexel Institute, She also studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Art Students League in New York, and in Paris. Many of her book illustrations are still in print.
